Who did it better?
Only a year ago we were rushing to Chick-Fil-A and Popeyes for the glorious spicy chicken sandwich – the forbidden fruit. As a spicy chicken sando fan myself, I figured it was only necessary that I settle the long awaited debate. Who did it better?
A question as long as time… time before covid, B.C. (before covid). Both Popeyes and Chick-Fil-A offer quality and tasty sandwiches, but which is the best one? Well, let’s break it down to the more serious details and attributes that make a proper Spicy Chicken Sandwich. Quality of bread, is it toasted or is it plain room temp… –blah! Is the breading spicy or do they just lather on the spicy mayo?? GROSS! What’s the price for standard entree (no fries or drink… sad) ?
In terms of pricing, the Popeyes Spicy chicken sandwich is far superior, coming in at a solid $3.99 while the outrageous NYC inflated, Christian-endorsed and blessed, Chick-Fil-A sandwich is a whopping $5.67. Atrocious! Now onto the bread quality and this is just facts, the Chick-Fil-A breading is as consistent as the USA Women’s Gymnastics team, pure winners. Sorry Popeyes but your cheap prices mean cheap bread… Lastly, the breading of a Popeyes chicken cutlet is at its core ‘regular‘ and then later doused in spicy buffalo seasoning and then bathed in spicy mayo, top and bottom -buns that is. A straight up car-wash of spice and sauce. Some may like it that way (weird) but I’m telling ya, it seems more like a science experiment than it does a classic sandwich. Chick-Fil-A wins out so far, holding a 2-1 Series lead. Let’s just hope they don’t blow it @ Steph Curry.
“A sandwich to die for” quite literally. Just over a year ago, a man stabbed the man standing in front of him at a Popeyes in Maryland after he failed to get the last spicy chicken sandwich. Now Popeyes clearly leads Chick-Fil-A in the casualties category. That’s not a good stat to have. Was it because Popeyes offers sub-par service? Too soon. Not to mention, Chick-Fil-A employees are straight up saints in the flesh. Chick-Fil-A wins out 4-1, after successfully maintaining a 0 casualty rate and its service is undefeated.
Overall, the Popeyes Spicy chicken sando although a $1.67 cheaper led to some tricky and careless flaws, becoming lethal. Chick-Fil-A is the clear winner even though it may be the boujee-r sandwich, it clearly outperforms Popeyes and for the extra price of top notch service, it clearly is not worth putting your life on the line.
